Union Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and RLD President Jayant Singh on Wednesday announced that Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) MPs and MLAs will donate one month’s salary to support flood relief efforts.
Taking to X, Singh said, “The Rashtriya Lok Dal has decided that our MPs and MLAs will donate one month’s salary for flood relief. The entire country is coming together for the flood victims and standing with them!”
The announcement comes as several states battle devastating floods triggered by incessant rainfall.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to announce a special relief package for flood-affected states including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh. Gandhi stressed that thousands of families are struggling to protect their homes and livelihoods, calling for urgent central assistance.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert warnings across multiple districts in Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Odisha.
In Delhi, the Yamuna River crossed the danger level of 205.33 metres on Wednesday, prompting precautionary evacuations of residents from low-lying areas, including Mayur Vihar Phase-1.
